In January, long-time friend of CLAGS, Eddie Tawil, hosted The Changing of the Guard Party honoring CLAGS founder Martin Duberman and welcoming our new executive director Jill Dolan. The evening was a wonderful success, with inspiring performances by two of our community’s most astute commentators on gender-as-performance: drag diva Joey Arias and the national songbird of Cuba, Carmelita Tropicana. Both Marty and Jill were touched by the number of friends that came forward to witness this important passing of the torch. And they were doubly pleased that we raised $10,000 to support the flagship of lesbian and gay studies in the United States.
