Duberman Fundraiser a Success

On Friday, October 28th, Martin Duberman and Eli Zal kindly opened up their home for a fundraiser celebrating the arrival of CLAGS’s new Executive Director James Wilson. The event was hosted by Charlotte Bunch and Edmund White, who greeted guests. Around forty people attended and enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and violinist Kevin Jang’s performance. Guests included long-time CLAGS members and many board members including Alyssa Nitchun, Daniel Hurewitz, Shana Agid, Jennifer Gaboury, and Rosamond King. Past Executive Director Sarah Chinn and Kessler Award winners Jonathan Ned Katz and Carole Vance were also in attendance. Matthew Knip volunteered his services as a photographer while CLAGS staff members checked coats, poured drinks, and served food. Martin introduced everyone to James, his former student at the Graduate Center, and welcomed him to CLAGS. James, in turn, spoke briefly about how thrilled he was to be joining the organization, and laid out his plans for the future. Many people were unable to attend, but generously donated the price of a ticket, and the event raised more than $6,000 for CLAGS. It was a lovely and auspicious way to begin James’s tenure, as well as the 2011-2012 academic year.
