David Clarke Dissertation Assistance Award

The David Clarke Dissertation Assistance Award is named for the man whose $20,000 bequest (the first substantial private gift received by CLAGS) provided some of the seed money for CLAGS. This annual award of $4,000 is available to a CUNY Graduate School student with an outstanding research project involving the articulation of the gay and/or lesbian experience or more generally engaging a gay and/or lesbian topic.

The first recipient of this award is Linda Dunne, Ph.D. Candidate, Program in English, for her book-length project entitled “Bound to the Procrustean Bed: Deformity and Deviance in Narrative Fiction by American Women Writers.” Application for the 1993 Clarke Award should be sent to Martin Duberman, CLAGS, CUNY Graduate School, 33 West 42 Street, New York City, 10036. The deadline is May 1, 1993.
