Jasmina Sinanovic is a busy person: not only does she serve as our Financial and Administrative Director here at CLAGS, but she also teaches at the Communications Department at the Bronx Community College and Women Studies Department at City College. These are only her two day jobs. By night Jasmina is a performance/burlesque/theatre artist. She works with WOW Café Theater to produce HyperGender Burlesque on the first Saturday of every month and recently offered a special discount to CLAGS members for her latest show, Love in the Time of Terror. All you had to say was CLAGS at the door to get the discount.
The rich production was a montage of art forms and a range of figures from women in purgatory to homeless war veterans. The brilliant stage choreography worked exceptionally well with the theme breaking the distance between performers and audience, and challenging us to rethink our assumptions about violence, love, and desire. WOW Café Theater, the oldest women’s and trans theater space in the world was an appropriate platform for this innovative production. We would like to thank Jasmina for making this show available to CLAGS members. I, for one, had a great time!
