Several Spring semester events in lesbian and gay studies are being organized at NYU by ALGFAS (Association of Lesbian and Gay Faculty, Administrators, and Staff). On March 3rd at 7:00 p.m., David Halperin, Professor of Classics at M.l. T., will present a lecture on ”The Queer Politics of Foucault.” On March 29th at 7:30 p.m., Kobena Mercer will present a lecture, with screening and slides, on “Race, Power, and Pleasure: Sadomasochism and the Politics of Phantasy in Recent Black Gay Film and Photography.” On April 14-15, a two-day symposium on “Hispanisms and Homosexualities” is being organized in conjunction with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Planned for late April is an afternoon event, “Pre-Stonewall Greenwich Village,” including a panel of oral histories and two presentations. Times and locations will be announced later.
