On September 11-12, 1992, approximately 50 scholars and museum professionals gathered at the The Graduate Center, CUNY to help plan a series of exhibitions that will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Stonewall in 1994. The conference took place under the auspices of CLAGS and its four partners in the Stonewall project: The Brooklyn Historical Society, The Museum of the City of New York, The New York Historical Society, and The New York Public Library.
Lively discussions took place in reference to the scope and content of the proposed exhibitions, which were originally slated to take place at the three sponsoring museums and the library. The conference ended on a high note with all of the participants expressing enthusiasm for the project and making offers of ongoing assistance.
Following the conference, The National Museum and Archives of Lesbian and Gay History and The Lesbian Herstory Archives also joined the venture. The National Museum and Archive will host an additional commemorative exhibit and The Herstory Archives will play an advisory role.
