Queer and Trans Intersections: Charting New Directions and Publications for The University of Wales Press
October 13, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

At this event we will discuss the trends and challenges facing queer and trans scholarship of the twenty-first century. There is a growing market for queer and trans studies, notably for work that explores the intersections of queer/trans identities with ecologies, global trajectories, decolonial initiatives, and disciplines in the arts, sciences, and humanities. As LGBTQIA2+ indicates, diverse gender and sexuality studies and theories undergo constant change and re-formations. The terminology, itself, has become labeled Eurocentric and Western, and there has been, in the last two decades in particular, an outpouring of global decolonial approaches (or fields) of study. Queer and Trans Intersections, a new series from the University of Wales Press, aims to reach beyond sexuality and gender to also examine the global cultures and crises emerging from queer/trans knowledges around the world. We invite proposals for monographs and edited volumes focused on queer/trans global intersectionalities that offer reexaminations of the field.
Dr. Ardel Haefele-Thomas and Dr. Luke Chwala will lead a discussion about the need for more queer and trans scholarship that moves beyond Eurocentric and Western ideologies, including on topics ranging from issues pertaining to the Global South, such as queer and trans diasporas, indigeneity, ecologies, medicine, and decoloniality. Sarah Lewis, Head of Commissioning, will discuss the processes and procedures of academic publishing at the University of Wales Press.
