During LGBTQ Pride Month, Janet Mock — prominent journalist, author, and activist for trans women’s rights — comes to the Graduate Center to discuss her work and life with CLAGS, executive director Kevin Nadal. Her bestselling memoir, Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More, was called “a lifemap for transformation” by critic bell hooks and was featured widely in the media, including interviews on CNN’s Piers Morgan Live, Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, and MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry. Mock is a contributing editor for Marie Claire, where she first told her story of growing up as a trans girl, and for which she now writes articles about pop culture, gender, race, and representation. Nadal is associate professor of psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, and the author of That’s So Gay: Microaggressions and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community, among other books.
Presented by GC Public Programs. Co-sponsored by CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies.
